The most breathtaking views in the Alps

Even if you never put on a pair of hiking boots, Chamonix offers an extraordinary range of sightseeing experiences. These are experiences that stay with you long after you return home — the scale, the beauty, and the drama of the Mont Blanc massif seen up close are simply unforgettable.

Must-See Attractions

Unmissable experiences in the Chamonix valley

Le Brévent

2,525m | Cable car from Les Bois | Walk from chalet

The Brévent cable car departs just a short walk from Chalet Josephine and ascends to 2,525m, offering perhaps the finest frontal view of the entire Mont Blanc massif. The summit restaurant terrace is a spectacular spot for lunch, and on a clear day the panorama stretches from the Aiguille Verte to the Bossons Glacier. In summer, combine with a walk along the Grand Balcon Sud.

Tramway du Mont-Blanc

2,372m | Departs from Saint-Gervais | ~20 min from chalet

France's highest rack railway climbs from Saint-Gervais to the Nid d'Aigle (Eagle's Nest) at 2,372m, the starting point for mountaineers attempting the summit of Mont Blanc. Even if you don't plan to climb, the journey itself is spectacular, passing through forests, Alpine meadows, and snowfields with views that become increasingly dramatic as you gain altitude.

Lac Blanc Viewpoint

2,352m | Cable car + walk | Moderate hike required

While reaching Lac Blanc requires a moderate hike (see our Hiking guide), the destination is so visually stunning that it deserves mention as a sightseeing highlight. The turquoise mountain lake perfectly mirrors the Mont Blanc range, and the refuge serves excellent meals on its terrace. One of the most photographed locations in the Alps.

Chamonix Town Centre

1,035m | Valley floor | ~15 min walk from chalet

Chamonix itself is a vibrant and charming Alpine town well worth exploring on foot. The pedestrianised centre is filled with boutiques, equipment shops, cafés, and restaurants. The Alpine Museum tells the fascinating story of mountaineering in the region, while the weekly market (Saturday mornings) offers local produce, cheeses, and artisan goods.
